ESPAÑOL: "Noches de Atacama". El Desierto de Atacama, en el norte de Chile, es famoso a nivel mundial por sus maravillosos cielos estrellados. Lo que quizás muchos no sepan es que esta región tiene también una muy rica historia minera que se remonta al siglo XIX, con el ague de la minería del salitre y los metales (oro, plata y cobre), actividad que llega hasta nuestros dias con las grandes minas de cobre y oro que caracterizan a la regíon. Es así que cuando uno recorre el desierto se encuentra con restos de construcciones y ruinas que nos recuerdan esos mas de 200 años de historia y tradición. Una historia en sus comienzos signada por las duras condiciones de trabajo de la zona, las sangrientas rebeliones de obreros peleando por sus derechos e incluso la guerra. Este timelpase intente rindir un homenaje a esos mineros que vivieron y murieron en el desierto mas seco del planeta buscando un futuro para sus familias, y que mejor manera de homenagearlos que mostrando los cielos estrellados que los cobijaron por las noches, y que hoy nos conectan con su recuerdo... ENGLISH: "Atacama Nights". The Atacama Desert, in northern Chile, is known worldwide for its wonderful starry skies. What many may not know is that this region also has a rich mining history that dates back to the 19th century, with the rise of saltpetre and metal (gold, silver and copper) mining, an activity that continues to this date with the large copper and gold mines that characterize the region. So when you travel through the desert you find the remains of buildings and ruins that reminds us of those more than 200 years of history and tradition. A story in its beginnings marked by the harsh working conditions of the area, the bloody rebellions of workers fighting for their rights and even war. This timelpase tries to pay tribute to those miners who lived and died in the driest desert of the planet looking for a future for their families. And what better way to pay tribute to them than showing the starry skies that sheltered them at night, and that today connect us with their memory... "Hawaii, Ríos de fuego" es el resultado de una serie de videos y timelapses registrados durante mis vacaciones en las paradisíacas islas de Hawaii durante Febrero de 2017. Como geólogo y fotografo, poder pasar un par de horas mano a mano con un flujo activo de lava ha sido una de las mejores experiencias de mi vida. Una de las cosas que más me gustan del Desierto de Atacama es el hecho de que sea un “desierto de bruma”, todas las mañanas (y también muchas de las noches) una densa niebla ingresa desde el mar inundando los valles y cubriendo los cerros. Tarde casi 6 meses en encontrar una manera de capturar el hipnótico movimiento de esta niebla que los locales llaman “Camanchaca”, palabra que proviene del vocablo aimara “kamanchaka” que significa “oscuridad”. Hoy comparto con ustedes un timelapse que condensa 1 hora del movimiento de la Camanchaca en tan solo 40 segundos. Espero les guste! ENGLISH CAPTION: "Kamanchaka” One of the things I like about the Atacama Desert is the fact that it is a "fog desert", which means that every morning (and also many nights) a dense fog enters from the sea, flooding the valleys and covering the hills. It took me almost six months to find a way to capture the hypnotic movements of this fog that locals call "Camanchaca", a word that comes from the ancient Aymara word "kamanchaka" which means "darkness". Today I wish to share with you a timelapse of 1 hour of the Camanchaca's movement condensed in just 40 seconds. I hope you like it!
